Reports reaching from north Gondar say Ethiopian regime forces have used heavy artillery on Monday after armed groups fighting the regime have broken out of an ambush killing four.
Sources who spoke to ESAT on the phone from north Gondar say the attempted ambush by the regime forces took place in Belesa while the forces fighting the regime, who call themselves freedom forces, were gathering for a meeting.
At least 18 soldiers of the regime have believed to have been killed or injured in a battle that lasted four hours on Monday, according to the sources.
The sources said regime forces were still firing heavy artillery on Tuesday in Belesa while setting homes of the fighters ablaze.
The regime has deployed hundreds of soldiers in the area after Monday’s battle in Belesa.
A number of armed groups operating in northern Ethiopia have been launching sporadic attack against regime forces in the last several months, although exact casualties on both sides are hard to verify.
